Comments: U2 launches the 5th leg of its Vertigo Tour, which had been delayed since the spring. It’s the first time U2 has played in Australia since early 1998. Since the Elevation Tour never reached these shores, U2 adds ‘Walk On’ and ‘Kite’ into the setlist as a taste of what fans missed in 2001. The 2nd encore opens with a cover of ‘The Saints Are Coming.’ Several familiar elements remain in the show, including snippets of ‘Johnny Comes Marching Home’ and ‘Hands That Built America’ during ‘Bullet.’ During the show, Bono pays tribute to The Go-Betweens co-founder Grant McLennan, who died earlier this year.

Comments: It rains during the early part of the show, prompting Bono to reference the weather from the stage. A female is brought on stage during ‘With or Without You.’ ‘Kite’ closes the show, and as in Brisbane, is played with an extra musician on stage playing a didgeridoo. At the end of the song, Bono releases a kite into the sky.
