New massive stage for U2 concert
Source: http://montreal.ctv.ca

The old Blue Bonnets site will be brought back to life, for one night at least, when pop superband U2 plays before 60,000 fans at a custom-made-claw shaped stage next July.

U2 has played smaller Montreal venues in the past, but they've decided to foot the bill for an outdoor extravaganza for their 360-degree tour, which stops in Montreal on July 16.

The stage will feature a cylindrical video system of interlocking LED panels and a steel structure rising 150 feet from the floor over a massive stage with rotating bridges.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, Nov. 21 at noon and range from $30 to $250.

"The stage alone is comparable in size to the Bell Centre itself!" the organizers from Gillett Entertainment Group said in a statement.

Construction

More than 300 people will work for two months to assemble the stage off site. More than 300 trucks will then transport the grandstands to the site on Decarie Blvd. It will take another month to dismantle the stage.

Logistics

Temporary parking lots will be set up and shuttle buses will transport motorists to the concert venue.

Michael Applebaum, mayor of Cote-des-neiges/NDG borough, told CTV News that he had no idea the concert was in the works.

He expressed doubts about noise levels and the costs of the additional police officers who would be needed to provide security.

Tickets

Tickets are available at the Bell Centre Box Office.
